Selling an Evelyne
The Evelyne dates from 1978 and is named after Evelyne Bertrand, then head of the Hermes riding department. It was designed to carry grooming kit, which is why one side is perforated with a large H to let brushes dry and the strap echoes a saddle girth. It comes in four sizes: the TPM 16, the PM 29, the GM 33 and the TGM 40. The current Evelyne III has an outside pocket and an adjustable canvas strap.
What pays best: the Evelyne 29 at about £2,500 to £3,000, then the 33 at about £2,300 to £2,800 and the 16 at about £2,100 to £2,500. Check the canvas strap for fraying and the perforations for stretched leather before you photograph it.
Selling a Lindy
The Lindy arrived in the Spring-Summer 2007 collection: a soft, slouchy bag with two handles, a pocket on each side and a detachable shoulder strap. It is made in a Mini 20 and in 26, 30, 34 and 45. We price the 26 and 30 in the calculator. For a Mini Lindy or a larger size, send photos and the desk will tell you straight away what it can do.
What pays best: the Lindy 26 at about £4,800 to £5,800, ahead of the Lindy 30 at about £4,200 to £5,100.
Selling a Bolide
The Bolide is the first handbag with a zip, launched in 1923 as the sac pour l'auto. The classic Bolide comes in 27, 31, 35 and 45, and the newer Bolide 1923 comes in a Mini, 25 and 30. We price the classic 27 and 31 in the calculator; for any other, send photos and ask.
What pays best: the Bolide 27 at about £3,900 to £4,600, then the 31 at about £3,500 to £4,200. Keep the lock, keys and clochette together with the bag, because they are part of the set.
Selling a Picotin Lock
The Picotin Lock is an open bucket bag, drawn from the feed bags used in stables, closed with a strap and a padlock. We price the Picotin 18 and 22 in the calculator.
What pays best: the Picotin 22 at about £1,900 to £2,300, a touch above the Picotin 18 at about £1,800 to £2,200. The padlock, its keys and the clochette must come with the bag.
Selling a Herbag
The Herbag first appeared in the 1980s and returned as the Herbag Zip in 2009. Its body is canvas and its top, flap and handle are leather, and the leather top can be unclipped from the canvas body so owners can swap in a different shell. It comes in a Zip 31 and 39, among other sizes.
What pays best: the Herbag Zip 31 at about £1,500 to £1,800 on the leather benchmark. In the calculator, pick Toile or canvas for the body and it prices at about £1,300 to £1,600.
Selling a Garden Party
The Garden Party is Hermes' everyday tote, made in canvas with leather trim or entirely in leather, in several sizes. Our calculator carries one band for all of them, and the specialist sets the exact figure from your photos.
What pays best: an all-leather Garden Party at about £1,200 to £1,400 on the leather benchmark, and a canvas one at about £1,000 to £1,200. Canvas marks first at the corners and the base, so photograph those closely.
What We Need From You
We buy complete sets only, on these models as on the Birkin and Kelly:
- The bag, made in 2012 or later. Our date stamp checker gives you the year from the letter stamped inside.
- The lock, keys and clochette on the models that come with them, such as the Bolide and the Picotin Lock.
- The box and the original receipt.
- Photo ID and proof of address. We ask for both on every purchase, without exception.
