Two patterns stand out. Within the Birkin and the Kelly, smaller is worth more: a Birkin 25 is worth about 53 per cent more to us than a Birkin 40, because more people want one and fewer come up. And the Birkin, Kelly and Constance families sit in a band of their own. The most we pay for any Lindy, Bolide, Evelyne, Picotin, Herbag or Garden Party (£5,800) is below the least we pay for any bag in those three families (£6,800).

What Moves a Hermes Price, in Numbers
Every band above starts from that baseline. Change one detail and our model moves the figure by a fixed percentage, shown below against the baseline. The percentages multiply rather than add, so a store-fresh ostrich bag gets both uplifts. Each table also shows what the change does to a Birkin 30, so every percentage has a pound figure beside it.
Leather

Hardware
Hardware matters least of the four. Gold and rose gold carry a small premium over palladium. Whether the metal is unscratched and unpolished matters more than which metal it is, and that shows up in condition.

Colour
Noir, Gold and Etoupe are the baseline because they always have buyers. Other classic tones sit a little below, bright seasonal colours further below, and a special order, marked by a small horseshoe stamp beside the date stamp, sits above.

Condition is the detail sellers underestimate. The step from excellent to good is the same size as the step from excellent to store fresh, and fair condition takes off about a third.

Take a Birkin 30 in Etoupe Togo with gold hardware, made in 2019, with the box, keys, clochette and receipt. Here is how our model builds the figure, once for the bag in excellent condition and once for the same bag with worn corners and a mark on the front, which we would grade fair.

Running figures are the unrounded midpoint. The band is that midpoint less and plus 9 per cent, each end rounded to the nearest £100.
Same bag, same year, same box: the difference between excellent and fair is about £3,900 at the midpoint. That is why an honest photo of the worst corner matters. It gets you a figure that does not move when we arrive, and if your bag is closer to excellent than you feared, the figure goes up rather than down. What We Pay vs Retail vs Resale Asking Prices
Three different numbers get called the value of a Hermes bag, and mixing them up is the most common reason a seller is disappointed.
Retail
What Hermes charges in its own boutiques. The Birkin and Kelly are not usually on open sale, and boutiques choose who is offered one, so for those two the retail price is not one most people can simply pay.
Resale asking price
What a dealer, consignment site or auction house lists a bag at. It carries the seller's margin, authentication, photography, VAT on the margin and the months a bag can sit unsold. An asking price is also not a sale price.
What we pay
What we transfer to you for the bag, with nothing taken off afterwards. It sits below resale asking prices because those have to pay for everything in the middle column.
The gap between retail and resale is real. Sotheby's says a store-fresh leather Birkin 25 or 30 sells for almost three times its original retail price, around $30,000, and that visible wear can take 30 per cent or more off. That is a selling price in dollars, not what a private seller receives. Consignment commission alone typically runs 20 to 40 per cent. How These Bands Are Set
Every band on this page is what this desk pays a private seller. The starting figure for each model and size is calibrated against publicly advertised UK purchase prices and against current demand from the buyers we sell to. The percentages above are then applied for leather, hardware, colour and condition. The band we publish is the resulting midpoint less 9 per cent to the midpoint plus 9 per cent, with each end rounded to the nearest £100.
That width is deliberate. It covers what photos show and a model cannot, such as how the corners have worn or whether the hardware has been polished. The bands are indicative. A firm figure comes from a specialist once we have seen your photos, and it does not change on the day unless the bag is materially different from them. The same model drives the calculator on this page, so the tables and the calculator cannot disagree.
What the bands do not cover
We buy bags made from 2012 onwards, and only complete sets: the bag, the key, lock and clochette, the box and the original receipt. There is no band for older bags or incomplete sets because we do not buy them. If a leather is hard to identify, the calculator prices it 3% below Togo until we have read it from your photos.
